I’m late to this Savings Report and I’m rushing it so it will be a quick one!

Markets seem stagnant, although they then shot up after I recorded the snapshot on the 1st, so hoping to cross some thresholds next month if they stay up.

I took the plunge and got a Codex subscription this month and it’s the first time I’ve subscribed to an AI tool, even though I’m a technie, you also know I’m very frugal, this subscription is the biggest one of the household by far at £20 a month.

I am getting a lot more done though and it will be hard to go back to not having it. Some of the use of my tokens has been:

  • Fix a lot of the issues I had with my home server, problems I’ve been putting off fixing for months
  • Upgraded and added to our home server, including a full custom home page
  • Added a household assistant linked to the family Discord (Hermes agent with Codex plugged in) that has access to our calendars, Trello, notes, emails, home server where me and my wife can tag it and ask it to do things
  • Upgraded this website to the latest version of Hugo, this was a very big task that I’d been putting off for years
  • Allowed me to get pretty far into the development of a Godot game I’ve been wanting to build for years

I’ve got a lot of use out of the subscription and I’ll probably renew. It has been stressful having to make sure I “spend” my weekly limit though as I don’t want to waste it. I guess it means I’ll keep iterating on my projects though!

If any readers pay for an AI account, I’d love to hear which one and how you’re justifying it.
